A few chapters into the story you find out what's really going on in her mind. Dealing with an abussive father, and a passive mother her life coudn't get more stressful. The loss of his latest wife, Jamie's dad gets worse, turning to sexual abuse instead. One day she fights back, and finds that she couldn't have made a worse decision.

Jamie's life gets worse and worse until finally she lands herself in a Juvinille prison for one year, and real prision for two.

She turns back to her writing, her memoir during this time, to help her deal, when she meets a guard in Juvinille. His name is Derick. Derick soon becomes the father Jamie never dreamed off, and she soon finds herself being accepted into the society around her. Just when things get comfortable she gets moved, and here things are different. Here are where the real criminals are.

Jamie finishes her memoir around the time she gets out, and is determined to get it out there to the world. To have her story told. Her life has taken so many twists and turns that she no longer remembers the person that she once was, and the people she left are just as different.

This is a powerful story about believing in who you are, what you do, what you stand for. Accepting that the world isn't always perfect, and the people in it are often worse. This a story about the darkness and it's twisted ways.
